We’re standing on the edge of August, but there’s still some summer left in the tank. Today we’re downright stoked to announce our return to the Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, NC! It’s our home away from home. Next week, we’ll be joining Hometapes official festival performers All Tiny Creatures, The Caribbean, and Family Dynamics — and we’ll be hosting our second Friend Island NC alongside our native friends Trekky Records. In addition to a striking roll call of sponsors, two rad venues, and secondary performances from our Hopscotch artists, we’re revealing the highly-anticipated solo appearances of two men you may recognize: Matthew White (Fight The Big Bull, Spacebomb Records) debuting the earth-shaking music from his upcoming album and Sunless (a.k.a. Adam of Hometapes) performing for the first time in a decade.

Hey everyone! We hope you get a chance to check out this next jam from our new record. It’s called “State/Meant”, and we should probably come clean about the fact that this is the only song on the record that uses Philly’s banjo. ;) Enjoy!

MEGAFAUN: album cover, track list, and first single from Megafaun
The first song you reveal from an album — from a band like Megafaun, from an album like Megafaun — says something. How do you tune the world to Phil Cook, Joe Westerlund, and Brad Cook, to the vastness of their minds, to the sheer nature of time?
Process, songcraft, and toss-and-turn emotion collided when Megafaun’s Joe Westerlund looped together field recordings from his travels in Bali and rural North Carolina: a round-robin of gamelan, ambient sounds, frogs, and cicadas underpin a hauntingly indelible piano melody and a hypnotic beat. Then there are the voices.
This song stopped us dead in our tracks, encapsulating the Megafaun we know and the Megafaun we’ve yet to hear. In between? Well, that’s Megafaun, out September 20, 2011.
The cover art was created by none other than Aaron Draplin.
Check out the premiere on Pitchfork this morning.
And talk about premieres:
We are excited to announce the first child of Megafaun’s Phil Cook and his wife Heather, born last night in Durham, NC!

OUT TODAY: All Tiny Creatures Glass Bubbles Mixtape cassette!
We’re releasing the next single from All Tiny Creatures’ forthcoming debut album Harbors in style. As the second installment in a two-cassette series built to precede the new record, Glass Bubbles Mixtape reveals two new songs from Harbors, buttressed by three tape-exclusive compositions.
MP3: All Tiny Creatures “Glass Bubbles”
DOWNLOAD THE TAPE (FOR FREE):
PURCHASE THE TAPE (limited to 250 copies): only from Hometapes or at an upcoming All Tiny Creatures show (including SXSW!). Digital download included.
“Glass Bubbles” features Ryan Olcott (12 Rods, Mystery Palace, Solid Gold) on vocals and is a sunrise within the many seasons of Harbors. Like An Iris Mixtape, this new cassette pushed our understanding and love for All Tiny Creatures to a new level. We hope you’ll find a little excitement and wonder in it, and dive into our and All Tiny Creatures’ efforts to expand what it means to release and experience music. The full and monumental album Harbors will be out on March 29 — on 2xLP, CD, and digital formats. Watch this space for a pre-order and a packaging sneak peek, coming soon.
While you are here:
DOWNLOAD An Iris Mixtape, the first cassette built around “An Iris” (feat. Justin Vernon of Bon Iver) and “Cargo Maps” (feat. Roberto Carlos Lange a.k.a. Helado Negro & Epstein).
We have a few of these still available for order, too, right here.

The year is new again. We’ve all been through so much. And I think we might all agree that everything is better set to music.
Enter the Hopscotch Music Fest’s recap video. Directed by good guy Tim Kiernan, this mini-documentary of that magical September 2010 weekend in NC gives us chills. They used a live recording of Bear In Heaven’s festival performance of “Lovesick Teenagers” to score it, providing an oddly perfect thread between the bands and the people that made Hopscotch the fest we’re most looking forward to getting back to in 2011.
Pitchfork announces new Megafaun mini-LP info today. Hang on to your hats kids.
Volunteers. Yay for Monday!
